What is the meaning of college education? Is it only increases our degrees through college or college educate us? Most of the people are taking college education to increase their degree through which society can say he/she is educated. But is it enough for society? Preferably the answer is no because when a young star goes for college education he/she must has some social responsibility and he/she has to fulfil it. At that particular age a student does not know what kind of responsibility he/she has towards their society. College must take the initiative. Youth is the backbone of the society. At that time they are fresh, energetic and desire to do something. But what they do?
Apart from providing education college must provide some other education like – ethics, social responsibility and values. College must undertake some short term project on the basis of social requirement emphasizing on interior sector. They can divide their students into some groups and every group has a project like- medical check up, education, water, pollution, greenery maintenance etc.
In case of medical project students select a location and organise a medical camp for some testing like – diabetes, eye test, uric acid and cholesterol test, blood test etc. after identifying the infected candidates, provide some initial medicines and this programme should be undertake on quarterly basis.
In case of water project- test drinking water with the help of some technicians. The motto of this test is to identify the level of arsenic. If water is not infected then ok but if infected then convey the remedies through seminar or open camp. What are the problems of arsenic infected water? What will be its effect and precautions.
In education project identify the literacy rate first then take initiative to educate their children. It is not possible to educate all parents due to their workload.
In pollution control project identify what kind of ingredients they are using for cooking. How much smoke is produced by that? Aware them about the deadly effect of smoke. Make them understand the hygiene factor. Tell them the usefulness of chimneys and bio-gas.
Last of all the most important thing is greenery project - Utilization and preservation of trees. Tell them why the percentage of rain is decreasing day by day and what are the deadly effects of that. Organise plantation programme, garbage control programme, stop using plastics. The motto of all above mentioned programme is – ‘be healthy and keep others healthy’.
All the programmes must be charitable. Colleges have to bare the expenses because cost of projects are not huge, colleges can easily afford it. The main thing is to motivate students for doing this. Make them feel that they are the backbone of any civilised nation. If they are active, the nation grows up but if they are inactive then nation suffers and always treated as third world country.
